Sustainability

Harmony is committed to supporting local people living with mental health crisis indefinitely, which means we need to make the best use of your support and be as sustainable as we can in everything we do. Sustainability is a fundamental part of our strategy to save more lives through prevention and rescue.

We recognise the need to manage the effect of our economic choices and our impact on the environment, on people and on the communities we serve, while maintaining and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our support service.
To this end, we’ve developed our Sustainability Plan to keep us on track for a sustainable future.
Our Sustainability Plan – giving more back

We are working hard to fully integrate sustainable principles and ways of working into our practices so that we can support local people living with mental health crisis indefinitely.
Our sustainability vision is to create more value than we take. Put simply, this means we’re focusing on giving more back to people, society and the environment than we take out, so that our positive impacts not only reduce, but outweigh, any negatives to create long-term, lasting value.
By the sheer nature of what we do in helping people through hard times, we already have a really positive impact on many people and communities. But it’s the way we do this that can make a real difference to the future of our lifesaving service.
Our Sustainability Plan will reduce the negative and optimise the positive social, economic and environmental impacts of all of Harmony’s activities. It will clearly identify our short, medium and long-term sustainability issues and opportunities locally and nationally to ensure we eliminate, manage or mitigate them as we work toward achieving our sustainability vision.

Accessibility

Harmony is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, regardless of the technology or the ability of the user. We are working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website and adhere to available standards and guidelines.

We will have met this goal when our website is accessible to people with a diverse range of hearing, movement, sight, and cognitive ability. When web sites, applications, technologies, or tools are badly designed they can create barriers that exclude people from using the Web. Accessibility is essential for organisations like Harmony who do not want to exclude people from using their services.
Our approach to accessibility
Better websites for everyone, regardless of their level of disability, are achieved by using web standards and conforming to accessibility best practices. This means we’re not only able to provide experiences that cater for disabilities, but also support people whose situation may change over time, or in different situations. For example, a person in bright sunlight may require high contrast as much as someone whose vision is permanently impaired, while a person with a broken arm may choose to use voice controls for a period of time.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines for our website. Their implementation helps to ensure ta better quality sites is created, and not only for users who may have a disability. Level AA is the minimum standard that UK Government sites must meet, and this is an appropriate benchmark for an organisation like Harmony.
