Our Funding

The Burrough Harmony Centre

Peer support for people living with mental health problems in West Dorset.

The Burrough Harmony Centre is a registered charity number 1170086.
Although we receive funding for the Community Front Room, we rely on grants and donations to run the Harmony sessions and for all the extras that make Harmony special.
  • Make a Donation
Donations and funding keep our services going. You could make a one off payment, or maybe consider a regular plan, both can be done on the form below. Thank you.

If you would like to make a Donation in Memory of someone special you can contact the treasurer.

  • Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving is a tax-efficient way to support our work to help people in crisis.
Because your donation is taken from your pre-tax salary, part of your donation comes from money that would otherwise go to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
How much is my donation worth? For standard-rate taxpayers, if you donate £10 to the Harmony centre it will only cost you £8.
And if you're a higher-rate taxpayer, Payroll Giving is the most tax-efficient way to give - a £10 donation will cost you just £6.
The amount you give is up to you - for example, a £5 donation will cost a standard-rate taxpayer £4, or a higher-rate taxpayer £3.
How do I sign up? Ask your employer for details on how to sign up. If your employer doesn't currently run a Payroll Giving scheme, they can find out how to set one up at gov.uk/payroll-giving.

  • Leave a gift in your Will
Whether you want to update your existing Will, or you’re planning to write your first Will, leaving a gift to a charity like Harmony is easy to do. An up-to-date Will ensures your wishes for your family and any charities you support will be clearly understood.

When you leave a gift to us in your Will, we promise:
  • your loved ones come first – we respect that.
  • we’ll use your gift wisely and effectively.
  • if you want your gift to be spent in an area that’s special to you, we can arrange that.
  • we won’t put you under pressure.
Passing on without a Will can create many problems for those left behind, at an already difficult time. To get started, you may have a family solicitor you already use. If not, ask a relative or friend to recommend one. Your partner can make a ‘mirror’ (identical) Will that will be broadly the same.

Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are the heart of the service we deliver. They are ordinary people who give up some of their time to help people struggling with their mental health.

Sometimes people need a friendly person to talk to. Sometimes volunteers use their talents to help run activities and make a life changing difference. See Anna’s story.
“I started volunteering with Harmony when I was coming up to retirement. I became a volunteer because I wanted to be helpful and of service to the community. I found that a visitor couldn’t tell who was a member of staff or volunteer and who was using the service for support. There's no ‘Them & Us’. People feel comfortable, and able to talk with each other - and not always about their problems. At first, I didn’t think I had any talents or skills to offer, but now I run a meditation group and bring music and dance into the group! What makes Harmony special is the friendliness and being able to communicate what is happening in our lives. There are never bad feelings and always a good atmosphere. Harmony enabled me to do something for someone else.” - Anna

Please call or email us if you would like to give us some of your time.

Our Funders

Picture
The Graham Burrough Trust was founded in memory of Graham Burrough (1931-1997). Raised in Bridport, he was blind for 40 years but tackled his physical and related problems with courage and style. Both to remember him, and in gratitude for the care he received, the Trust made generous grants that enabled us to take on the work we do.

We received generous core-funding support from The Alice Ellen Cooper Dean Foundation

We are also grateful to the following corporate funders and the many individuals, local clubs and organisations who sponsor us.
