Sandra swims for Harmony
Local woman Sandra Jay Russell is taking to the water to raise funds for Harmony, Bridport’s mental health hub. She plans to regularly swim in the sea from November 1st until February 1st. “I've never been a sea swimmer,” says Sandra. “Even at the height of summer I always preferred to sit on the beach and not venture into the sea as I may get cold. But I am planning to swim throughout the winter as a wonderful way of challenging myself and raise money for Harmony.” Recognising that winter swimming in the sea comes with some definite do's and don'ts, Sarah joined a group of experienced swimmers and has acclimatised herself for the challenge of swimming in the open sea throughout the winter. “Earlier this year, I stumbled across an inspiring charity (Harmony Centre in Bridport) which offers a dedicated and much needed service to local people who are challenged with issues around their mental health. The staff do so much with little funding and limited resources. This place of respite, safety, and solace has an open door for those in need. Harmony runs with limited resources, so I wanted to help in some way. What better way than to offer something and stepping out of my own comfort zone?". Harmony runs a Drop-in that can be visited or contacted during opening hours on 07597 379290, and a Community Front Room (07385 290804).
