Thank you Sandra!

Sandra swims to raise money for Harmony

This winter, local woman Sandra Jay Russell has been swimming in the sea to raise funds for Harmony, Bridport’s mental health hub. She regularly swam since November 1st and raised £425 in sponsorship for the charity.
“I've never been a sea swimmer,” says Sandra. “Even at the height of summer I preferred to sit on the beach rather than venture into the sea and risk the cold. But I challenged myself to swim in the sea throughout the winter to raise money for Harmony.  Some days it was really hard, but I thought about the cause and that kept me going. I am really pleased I managed to do it.”
Sandra joined a group of experienced swimmers and acclimatised herself for the challenge of swimming in the cold water of the sea throughout the winter.
“I work as a Psychotherapist and am very aware that sometimes we have to step outside our own comfort zones to make important things happen – so I am really pleased I could practice this for myself. The Harmony Centre staff do so much with little funding and limited resources for people in Bridport who are challenged with issues around their mental health, so I wanted to help them in some way."
Harmony runs a Drop-in that can be visited or contacted during opening hours on 07597 379290, and a Community Front Room (07385 290804).

Winners of the Daily Echo Proud to Care awards 2021

9/12/2021

We are very happy to recieve this award, and grateful that we have been noticed for our hard work and services.
Here is what the article says...

"The winners of the Daily Echo Proud to Care Awards 2021 in association with BCP Council have been announced.
We received hundreds of incredible nominations from across the conurbation for this years Proud to Care Awards which gave our readers a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to all of those individuals associated with care.
Angela Boyer from the Daily Echo who organised the event told us: “While it was incredibly difficult to choose from so many worthy entries there was one common thread among them all and that is the difference that a carer can make to someone’s life."
Many of the submissions highlighted the tireless work, sometimes unpaid being done in our local communities.
The awards were judged by Phil Hornsby, Director of Commissioning for People - BCP Council, Cllr Karen Rampton of BCP Council and Vincent Boni, Managing Director of Newsquest Dorset.
Pick up a copy of the Daily Echo on Thursday December 8 to see all the winners in full.
The 2021 Proud to Care Winners are:
  • Residential/Nursing Care Home of the Year – Primrose Lodge
  • Residential/Nursing Care Home Worker of the year – Paula Arteaga Rodriguez
  • Home Care Provider of the Year – Christchurch Care Home

Sandra Swims for harmony

6/12/2021

Sandra swims for Harmony

Local woman Sandra Jay Russell is taking to the water to raise funds for Harmony, Bridport’s mental health hub. She plans to regularly swim in the sea from November 1st until February 1st.
“I've never been a sea swimmer,” says Sandra. “Even at the height of summer I always preferred to sit on the beach and not venture into the sea as I may get cold. But I am planning to swim throughout the winter as a wonderful way of challenging myself and raise money for Harmony.”
Recognising that winter swimming in the sea comes with some definite do's and don'ts, Sarah joined a group of experienced swimmers and has acclimatised herself for the challenge of swimming in the open sea throughout the winter.
“Earlier this year, I stumbled across an inspiring charity (Harmony Centre in Bridport) which offers a dedicated and much needed service to local people who are challenged with issues around their mental health. The staff do so much with little funding and limited resources. This place of respite, safety, and solace has an open door for those in need. Harmony runs with limited resources, so I wanted to help in some way. What better way than to offer something and stepping out of my own comfort zone?".
Harmony runs a Drop-in that can be visited or contacted during opening hours on 07597 379290, and a Community Front Room (07385 290804).

New Bereavement Support Group Starting

29/10/2021

The Bereavement Support Group is a partnership venture between The Burrough Harmony Centre, Social prescribers in the Jurassic Coast PCN, Weldmar Hospice and Downs Funeral Directors.
We identified through feedback from people that there was a need for this type of group as the waiting time for other bereavement services was quite long, so we are hoping to ease the pressure a little!
We do not offer specialist counselling, but a welcoming and safe space for people to talk and gain mutual support.

If you or anyone you know may be interested in this group, please do come to our first meeting on the 8th November at 3.30pm.
The group will then be held on the 2nd Monday of each month at The Assembly Rooms, Gundry Lane, Bridport.
